Understanding Cat Behavior Training
By Dog Lover | June 2, 2009
Before starting cat behavior training it is wise to spend some time learning about your cat and what actually makes it tick. Many people who own cats have very little knowledge about how their cats think. A deeper understanding of your cat will lead to more success in training it.
Ok let's start with how a cat is built. A cats bone structure is quite different compared to a lot of other mammels. For example cats do not have collar bones. This enables them to perform acrobatics without injuring themselves. Cats are very flexible.
Another powerful trait that a cat has, is its ability to smell. Every cat has a unique smell. This is the reason why cats love rubbing themselves up against things. This means that this particular territory has been claimed. This means two things. First of all this is letting other cats that the place has already been claimed. Secondly when your cat rubs up against you, it is basically claiming ownership of you. Knowing how this works can be a valuable tool in cats behavior training.
When you are trying to train your cat or trying to change your cats behavior, it is best to remember that cats have certain instinctive behaviors, and many times they need to see this type of behavior through. It can do this by itself or together with you.
Cats behavior can change if they become bored or depressed. This can happen if the cat is not getting the attention that it used to, or if it is separated from its owner. Your cat can become unhappy if there has been another cat in the house, and it has been removed for whatever reason. It could be a good idea to arrange a visit to a vet. This can ensure that the cat is healthy, and your vet will also discuss how you can cheer your cat up.
When you start cat behavior training, you need to keep in mind that you can't shout at it if it misbehaves. This will show your cat that you are somebody who must be feared, and your hopes of training it will disappear. Cats prefer to be praised and getting attention. If you try to force your cat to change its behavior, you will just end up breaking the bond between the two of you.
In conclusion, spend some time learning about your cat. Set yourself a goal to learn about your pets behavior and its moods. Understanding these ideas will help you to succeed with cats behavior training.
