Using Electric Dog Fence Reviews To Your Benefit

By Dog Lover | January 14, 2010

If you are considering an electric dog fence for your pet, you can find a world of electric dog fence reviews on the web.  Each and every store has their own website with customer reviews or endorsements and advertising, but how can you tell if the information is worthwhile?  When it’s all said and done, no one is going to admit to having defective items.

One of the most important things to look for when digging through the piles of reviews is a history. It is very accessible to set up a company that installs invisible dog fences, all the items are easily obtainable online.  Most people are capable of installing a system themselves and save a few bucks.  For a company to stay in business for many years implies that they are doing something right, and you can consider the brand of fencing they use to be trustworthy.

The most popular company placing electric dog fences is Invisible Fence.  Invisible Fence opened in the 1970s and has been going strong since then.  Invisible fence works hard in keeping all their technology updated.  Even though this company has been running since the 1970s, the patent on the systems didn’t come about until the early 90s. Other systems are fairly new and do not have as much success.

Whether you decide to have someone install the system for you or you install the fence yourself, the training part of the system is very substantial.  Before you take interest to any dog fence, make sure that there is adequate information about how to train your dog properly.  It takes several weeks of soft help, devotion, and training to get a dog to loyally stay within the borders of an electric fence.  Without careful training, the fence can only perform so much in helping keep your pet safe.

Features to look for in a good fence include high gage wire that can withstand time underground, collars that are adjustable, and receivers that can be set to several settings.  The same collar that is adequate for a Great Dane would be disastrous for a Chihuahua.  Look for a system that allows for expansion.

If you have one dog, a classic setup will do but if you own several dogs, you want to be capable to add several collars to the same unit.  The more advanced systems will have an extra transmitter to put in your home to keep your dog out of the trash, toilet, etc.  If this is an important element of your system, make sure it is an available product.

If you are not going to a local store to do your installation, the most helpful place to find all your equipment and look at the amazing variety of systems available is the Internet.  You can find just about every system you can imagine, and take your time making a decision.  Make sure to purchase a system that has a good warranty, just in case you have one of those dogs that just won’t stay within the electric fence.
