Puppy Training and Socialization Training
By Dog Lover | December 2, 2009
Puppy training begins with so many different aspects that relate to their overall development, including how to feed your puppy, housetraining, grooming tips and socialization. So what do we mean by that? Knowing how to socialize your puppy is necessary in order to give him a positive upbringing.
Growing into adulthood is a very important topic that should be taken into consideration. While it is true that wild animals survive without human care at all, a new puppy needs to be socialized successfully and have the desire and willingness to interact with people around it and know their owner is in charge.
Teaching Your Puppy Socialization
It takes hard work, diligence, and intelligent handling to have successful socialization. Exposing a puppy to a variety of stimuli and gently, patiently, guiding it with each new experience, will serve to create a confident, well-educated, socially acceptable canine.
The spooky dog, the fear-biter, the animal who backs away when approached and many other dogs who behave in a socially unacceptable fashion, were created by neglectful owners. The owners never took the time to show them what the world has to offer. Many times these neurotic pets are thrown into the ‘outdoor dog’ category because they are seen as uncontrollable not able to be seen as household family pets.
Puppy socialization training includes exposing your pets to noise, unfamiliar places and people, other pets and children, along with travel and other stressful situtations. Puppies may be cautious about unusual and unknown things. If the dog is barking, whining, acting fierce, or backing away, it can be signs of lack of confidence.
If you are reassuring and gently let your pet explore the offending person or object, along with praise, you will teach the puppy that there is no reason to be fearful. Each time it overcomes its anxiety, new self-confidence is developed and it will find its next unfamiliar situation less threatening. Reassurance is important in your puppy training techniques.
Your puppy’s exposure to people and children should be treated in a similar fashion. Many puppies are quite comfortable with all types of people, big or small, but just as many are timid when presented with unfamiliar faces. To encourage socialization and freindship, ask children and even strangers to play with your puppy. When it comes to the quickness of children and their size in general, they can kneel or sit beside the animal to ease any trepidation the pet may feel.
Children and Puppies
When it comes to young children playing with pets, there should be proper adult supervision. A puppy is not a stuffed toy and should the child mishandle it, the animal could be irrevocably damaged regarding its adjustment to all children in the future. It is important to realize if the child in the house is simply too young to be gentle with the puppy, therefore refrain from bringing a puppy home for awhile or get an adolescent dog that is about 4 to 9 months old.
There are many aspects to training for a well adjusted pup and you don’t need to have a trainer. You can benefit from puppy and dog training online.

I would also add that aggression towords your dog can also create such behavior.
